more on the SOTU

Very interesting observation...this year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address occur on the SAME day.

As one radio station pointed out:

"It is an ironic juxtaposition of events: One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication while the other involves a groundhog."

(Actually, the State of the Union is not on Groundhog day this year. but oh well.)

The Constitution isn't very specific:

"The President shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." (Article II, Section 3)"

It doesn't even have to be a speech. According to Wikipedia,
since 1934, the SOTU has been given in February on six occassions.

The 2005 address was given on February 2nd, so I imagine the email I got was something that had been forwarded around a year ago.
