port silliness
So, this whole "port security" thing is pretty silly.
Foreign companies already run the majority of major U.S. ports; they don't run the security, though, and nothing about that is going to change. Bush is exactly correct.
Check out the LA Times editorial or the CSM article for the basics of the situation.
The sad story here belongs to Clinton, Menendez, Lautenberg, Boxer and others who are trying to score points on this one. Oh no, those Arabs are going to let the terrorists in!
Today some media got a bit sharper on this story, and I hope the media that haven't understood the basics yet figure it out soon. Meanwhile, these senators have dug themselves in and are now going to be busy on this issue for the next week or whatever, pressing boldly ahead to save our freedoms and then any day now looking for an exit strategy for themselves from this story (say, "our concerns were always legitimate and now we are confident that they have finally been fully addressed"). I hope they're exposed for being the racist frauds they are.
It will be interesting to see which groups on the left criticize these Dems in the coming days.
Feingold '08 all the way.
