About those NJ Turnpike rest stops

Ever wonder what the story is with the names of the NJ Turnpike rest stops, like the Vince Lombardi? (wasn't he a Wisconsin guy?). I know I have. Gene Weingarten, the Washington Post Magazine's humor columnist, had a clever look into it.

I would like to point out that although the Turnpike rest stops are poorly named, there are plenty of actually famous people from NJ that we could name them after.
But of course, when one needs a humor column, one goes after Jersey. I get it, but Jersey should go after some royalties or something.
