The New York Lunch Buffet

For me, the idea of going out to a buffet invoked images of luke-warm food that's been sitting out for hours, food that looks excitingly plentiful and varied at first but dissapoints upon closer inspection. But the concept of the lunch buffet in New York is, today, in a great place.

My spot (and it's out of convenience, not out of having sampled all the buffets) is Amici, at 8th ave and 36th street. The variety is just incredible. I haven't tried that many of the warm foods yet -- but just in sampling the cold ones, I've almost always been very happy. Their array of cooked-then-chilled vegetables is just tremendous.

Here was today's lunch:

It was as good as it looked.
